Little is to be expected of that day, if it can be called a day, to which we are not awakened by our Genius, but by the mechanical nudgings of some servitor, are not awakened by our own newly-acquired force and aspirations from within, accompanied by the undulations of celestial music, instead of factory bells, and a fragrance filling the air—to a higher life than we fell asleep from; and thus the darkness bear its fruit, and prove itself to be good, no less than the light.

공장의 종(업무시작과 끝을 알리는, 수동적인 알림소리) 대신, 천상의 음악이 넘실거림(undulations, 파동)과 공기를 채우는 향기(fragrance)를 동반한(accompanied by~) (스스로의 재능, 능력, 염원에 의해 깨어나지 않은 아침은 기대할 것이 없다.)깨어나지 않은 (그런 날),
(Genius, force, aspirations) accompanied by the undulations of celestial music, instead of factory bells, and a fragrance filling the air
—to a higher life than we fell asleep from;
(스스로 일어난 아침은) 우리가 잠에 빠졌을 때보다 고결한 삶으로 (이끈다).
그리하여 (그렇게 깨어난 아침은) 어둠이 맺은 열매이며 빛보다 열등하지 않다고 (어둠) 스스로 능력을 증명한다.

That man who does not believe that each day contains an earlier, more sacred, and auroral hour than he has yet profaned, has despaired of life, and is pursuing a descending and darkening way.
하루하루가(each day) 그가 여지껏 더렵혀(profane, 신성모독) 왔던 것보다 더 이르고, 더 신성한 그리고 새벽(auroral)의 시간을 담고 있다는(contain) 것을 모르는 그 사람은 절망해(despair) 오고(체념하며 삶을 살아오고) 있었고 어둡고(darkening) 쇄락(descending)의 길을 걷는(추구하는) 중 이다(is pursuing).
* 나태하게 살아온 낮의 시간들 이전에 신성한 새벽이 있다는 것을 모르는 살아왔던 사람들은 지금도 어둠의 길을 걷고 있다(아침을 모르는 자는 무지몽매 하다).
After a partial cessation of his sensuous life, the soul of man, or its organs rather, are reinvigorated each day, and his Genius tries again what noble life it can make.
그의(새벽을 모르고 사는 사람들) 감각적(향락적) 삶에서 잠시 휴식(cessation, 휴지, 정지)을 가진 후에 인간의 영혼 또는 그 조직(신체) 마저 매일 새롭게 활력을 되찾고(reinvigorate) 그의 재능은 할 수 있는 만큼 우아한 삶을 가지려고 다시 시도한다.
* 새벽의 신성함을 모르고 사는 사람들은 지치면 잠시 쉬었다가 원기를 회복하면 또다시 향락적 삶을 추구한다.
All memorable events, I should say, transpire in morning time and in a morning atmosphere.
모든 기억할 만 한 사건들은 아침 시간과 아침의 분위기에서 일어난다(transpire)고 말할 수 있다.
The Vedas say, “All intelligences awake with the morning.” Poetry and art, and the fairest and most memorable of the actions of men, date from such an hour.
베다(인도의 철학적 종교적 경전)에는 "모든 지능은 아침에 깨어난다"고 하는 글이 있다. 시와 예술 그리고 인간의 행동중 가장 우아하고(fairest) 기억할 만 한 것은 그런 한 시간( 새벽의 한시간)에서 시작한다(date).

현재 시각(시계가 가리키는 점)이나 인간의 (정신적)처지(attitude, 관점)와 (육체적)고통(노동, labor) 따위는 상관없다. 내가 깨어있는 동안은 아침이며 내 마음속에 (늘) 여명(dawn)이 있다.

They are not such poor calculators. If they had not been overcome with drowsiness they would have performed something.
노동의 댓가가 그렇게 인색하지는 않다. 졸음을 극복하지 못했더라면 아마 뭔가 성취했을지 모른다.
