What recommends commerce to me is its enterprise and bravery. It does not clasp(꽉쥐다) its hands and pray to Jupiter. I see these men every day go about their business with more or less courage and content(자신), doing more even than they suspect, and perchance(어쩌면) better employed than they could have consciously devised.
교역를 내게 추천하는 것[내게 교역이 좋은 이유]는 기획[뭔가 이루려는 의지]와 [실천하려고 나서는]용기다. 그것(기획과 용기)은 두손을 맞잡고 제우스 신(Jupiter)에게 기도라도 올려야할 것[운명을 미신에 의탁하려는 것]이 아니다. 사람들은 매일 많던 적든 용기와 자신감을 가지고 일에 임한다. 예상했던 것보다 더많이 일하고 어쩌면 의식적으로 계획해왔던 것보다 더 일해야(be employed) 할지 모른다.

나는 부에나 비스타 전투의 최전선에 반시간 가량 앞장섰던 사람들 정도의 영웅주의에 영향을 덜 받는다. 차라리 겨울 쟁기( snowplough, 눈치우는 가래)를 겨울 막사 삼아 지내는(inhabit) 진중하고 활기찬 용기에 더 영향(감명)을 받는다(by than ... be affected).
[눈치우는 가래를 겨울 오두막 삼아 겨울을 난다는 것은 터무니 없는 일이지만 치열한 전투의 영웅과 비유(혹은 조롱)하고 있다. 가장 치열했던 전투에 빗댄 것을 보면 미국 멕시코간에 텍사스를 두고 벌인 전쟁을 탐탁치 않게 생각했다보다. ]

용기 있는 (서까레로 겨울을 나는 활기찬) 사람들은 나폴레옹이 가장 얻기 어렵다고 생각한 아침 3시의 용기를 확고히 가지지도 않았다.

but whose courage does not go to rest so early, who go to sleep only when the storm sleeps or the sinews(힘줄,체력) of their iron steed(준마) are frozen.
단지, 그들이 가진 용기라고는 일찍 쉬러 가지 않고 그저 폭풍이 잠잠해지거나 철마의 체력이 쇠잔해 졌을 때 잠자러 갈 (정도일) 뿐이다.
* 철도 운송 체계는 나라를 지배할 만큼 중요하나 그렇다고 그 일에 고용된 사람들이 꼭 그만큼의 충성심이 필요한것 같지는 않다. 그렇더라도 묵묵히 해내는 사람들의 용기.

and I behold(주시하다) the ploughmen covered with snow and rime(서리), their heads peering above the mould-board(moldboard, 제설판) which is turning down other than daisies and [above] the nests of field-mice, like bowlders(둥근돌) of the Sierra Nevada(네바다 사막의 둥근돌;설악산 흔들바위 같은), that occupy an outside place in the universe.
그리고 눈과 서리를 뒤집어 쓴 눈치우는 일꾼들(ploughmen)을 주목한다. 제설판 위 머리를 내밀어....들쥐의 둥지 위의 커다란 바위를 보면....
