남쪽으로 경사진 언덕 옆으로 우드척이 옷나무(sumac)와 블랙베리의 뿌리 아래에 이미 굴을 파놨던 곳에 지하창고를 팟다. 평방 6피트, 깊이 7피트로 고운 모래가 나오는 농사 짓기에 가장 낮은 깊이(농사의 흔적-stain-을 찾아볼 수 있던 가장 낮은 깊이)로 어떤 겨울날씨에도 감자가 얼지 않을 것이다.

Under the most splendid house in the city is still to be found the cellar where they store their roots as of old, and long after the superstructure has disappeared posterity remark its dent in the earth.
이 도시의 가장 훌륭한 집 아래에 옛날 방식대로(as of old) 뿌리채소(roots)를 저장해 두는 지하창고가 발견된다는 것은 여전하다. 그리고 초구조물(인간이 만든 과도한 집)이 사라진 먼 훗날에도 후손(posterity)들이 땅에서 그것(지하창고)의 움푹 파인곳(dent)을 인지하게 될 것이다(remark).
